This is possible (and is often the case) due to reasons such as\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Deleted Photos or Videos By Mistake:<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may find that some of the images or videos are missing from the SD card when you attempt transferring the files from SD card to your laptop or USB storage. This could happen due to accidental deletion while transferring the files. Image corruption may happen due to reasons like slow SD card taking more time to write images while they\u2019re being captured, or continued shooting through a digital camera having a nearly full memory card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Accidental Formatting of SD Card:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, a memory card may fail to mount on your PC with Windows prompting to format the card. You format the SD card and now able to access it but find that all the images and videos previously stored on the memory card are now gone. The SD card turns out as blank! What just happened is you\u2019ve lost the photos and videos due to formatting which erased the files from the SD card. <strong>So, never format the memory card in such cases.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Computer Fails to Detect the SD Card:<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes a computer may fail to detect microSD card inserted in the card slot or removable card reader. The software is available for free trial which can scan and preview the recoverable photos and videos. Activation is needed for saving the recoverable files.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are the steps to run the software:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Connect SD card to computer.<\/li><li>Download trial version of <strong>Stellar Photo Recovery<\/strong> <strong>Premium<\/strong> software on your PC or Mac.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>On Home screen of the software, select your SD card.<\/li><li>Click <strong>Scan<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Once the scan process is completed, you can <strong>Preview<\/strong> recoverable photos.<\/li><li>Click <strong>Recover<\/strong><\/li><li>In the dialog box, click <strong>Browse<\/strong> to select location for saving the recovered photos.<\/li><li>Activate the software and <strong>Save<\/strong> the deleted photos at your desired location<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Method_2_Unable_to_Detect_the_SD_Card_Try_the_following\"><\/span><strong>Method 2: Unable to Detect the SD Card? Try the following:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As we read earlier in this post that sometimes an SD card may not show up on your system when you insert it in the card reader. Reasons could be hardware or software related such as faulty card reader, driver issues, unassigned drive letter. Try the following methods to recover lost photos or videos is such cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Use an Alternative USB Card Reader or Slot<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes the card reader is faulty, due to which the PC cannot read the SD card. So, try accessing the memory card through another slot or USB card reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Update SD Card Driver\u00a0<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019re the steps to update SD card driver in Windows 10:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click Start and enter Device Manager.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Find your SD card and right click it. Select Update Driver.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Select \u201cSearch automatically for updated drive software\u201d.&nbsp;<\/li><li>If new driver isn\u2019t available, try searching for one on the manufacturer\u2019s website.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If unable to update driver, right click the device and select \u201cUninstall\u201d.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Restart the computer to reinstall the driver.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Disable Write Protection on SD Card<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SD cards have a toggle switch on the side to enable\/disable write protection. Check your SD card and see if the write protection switch is toggled on. Slide the switch to turn off write protection. Try accessing the SD card now, it might show up and allow access to the photos and videos.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Assign Drive Letter to SD Card<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the SD card is still not visible after trying to access it on alternative systems and through different card readers, disabling write protection and updating card driver, time is to assign drive letter. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Press Ctrl + R<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Type CMD in Run window. Click OK or Press Enter<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Type diskpart and press Enter.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Type list volume and press Enter to list all available volumes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Type select volume x where x is the numeral shown for your undetectable SD card<\/li><li>Type assign letter=z &amp; press Enter. Windows will assign letter \u2018z\u2019 to the SD card, provided it is available. You can choose other letters as well, such as \u2018h\u2019 or \u2018g\u2019.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Exit Command Prompt and now try accessing the SD card. You should be able to see it along with other drives on your PC.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Method_3_Use_Software_to_Recover_Photos_from_Inaccessible_SD_Card\"><\/span><strong>Method 3: Use Software to Recover Photos from Inaccessible SD Card<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, you may not be able to access SD card due to file system corruption. In that case, Windows will prompt you to format it. Formatting will restore access but it will also erase the photos and videos from the memory card.
